The updates have returned!

I have been quietly working on something big, which should be ready soon. After agonizing for ages over whether to make it an article or a video, I decided I want both. My QQ status has already hinted at the subject. It was also one of my possible titles, haha.

Halloween culture has always been strong in America. For someone whose only systematic introduction to the holiday and its history came from an Omnibus textbook, this was my first time truly celebrating Halloween. I had received candy before, admittedly… but that was at a birthday party.

First thing in the morning, my roommate showed me the copy of the Ninety-five Theses he had printed. Ah. Now this feels familiar. This is indeed how we Reformed Christians celebrate Halloween. He also wore a shirt bearing the words “nail it.” Perhaps tomorrow he will carry a door with the theses nailed to it around campus. (Yes, he is absolutely capable of doing that.)

Our residence hall’s theme this year was pirates, so everyone, whether we knew one another well or not, was now in the same boat. Literally. What I did not expect was for someone to bring an actual parrot. Are pets not forbidden in the dorms? (

During a quiet interval, I hitched a ride on the supply cart and made a circuit of campus. My legs were so wrecked from playing ball over the previous two days that I could barely walk. Next time I really must stretch properly. The residence halls displayed a hundred schools of thought in their themes: racing, cowboys, even Star Wars. This is where one’s previously accumulated social circle becomes important. At the halls where I knew someone, I could chat for ages. At those where I knew no one, I snapped a covert photo and fled. (Good children should not imitate covert photography.)

Maybe next year I can try joining them… We will see when the time comes.
